Some Nigerians have urged the government to arrest and prosecute Bishop David Oyedepo, General Overseers of Winners’ Chapel for defiling the ban placed on mass gatherings of more than 20 people during Sundays services.
Attendances at all the services surpassed 20 persons; which represents the figure banned in a revised order issued by the Lagos State Government. As a matter of fact, hundreds of worshippers thronged the church’s auditorium for the service.
Furthermore, Oyedepo was unfazed by the risk of contagion of the novel coronavirus. In the course of the service, he declared that no plague can come near the children of God.
Dr. Joe Abah said: “It is prehensible, irresponsible and selfish that Bishop Oyedepo decided to go ahead with today’s service in defiance of government directives. Selfish in the extreme that he did it in a way that only HE was at a safe distance. The Ogun State Government must now sanction.”
Ayo FBI said: “If Ogun state Government has placed a ban on public gatherings and what happened at Winners Chapel in Canaan land still happened, then Bishop Oyedepo should face the complete wrath of the law.”
Oyedepo at the service criticised the government over its handling of the dreaded coronavirus. As a matter of fact, he berated the Muhammadu Buhari-led government for banning schools
