According to Babachir Lawal, the Muslim-Muslim ticket is an existential threat to us Christians in the North and is meant to subjugate, destroy, and exterminate us.

Babachir David Lawal, the former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), has explained why he and Yakubu Dogara, the former speaker of the house of representatives, met with Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, the former military leader, regarding the Muslim-Muslim ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that the pair, along with numerous other Christian leaders in the North, openly criticized the slate.

In an interview with Daily Trust, Lawal claimed that although though they were in Minna to welcome retired general Abdulsalami, who had recently arrived from a medical trip, they also took advantage of the occasion to pay a visit to general Babangida.

The former SGF said that the Muslim-Muslim ticket was existential and intended to persecute, kill, and exterminate Christians in the North from the political and economic structures, even though he acknowledged that it was addressed during the conference.

said Lawal;

However, we cannot attend without the Muslim-Muslim ticket dispute emerging. We naturally talked about it when it came up.

“The Muslim-Muslim ticket is vital for us Christians in the North. It is intended to kill us, oppress us, and remove us from the political and financial institutions. No other explanation exists. It was done to keep us out of any of this country’s political, economic, and educational advantages.

“As an APC cardholder, it is your PVC, not your APC membership, that counts in this case because your party card won’t cast a vote.”

When asked if he was considering leaving the APC, the former SGF responded, “Myself and Dogara are members of all other organs of the party, except from the BoT and NEC. Even if we are APC, you are free to make your own decisions.

“Remember that even President Buhari stated during the previous campaign that we should vote for the candidates of our choosing. Has he since withdrawn the statement? Party members will cast ballots for the candidates they want.
Regarding his relationship with Tinubu after Shettima was rejected, he said:

“Tinubu and I have not communicated since I openly objected to the ticket. At a junction, two friends may choose to go separate ways.
