Election in 2023: ineligible registrants are removed by INEC. Out of the 2,523,458 new registrants who signed up between June 28, 2021, and January 14, 2022, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has delisted 1,126,359 of them.

Festus Okoye, National Commissioner and Chairman of INEC’s Information and Voter Education Committee, spoke to reporters on Monday, September 12 in Abuja. He said that since the suspension of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) on July 31, 2022, work has been ongoing to clean up the voter register using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

He stated:

“Earlier, the commission informed Nigerians that 1,126,359 records were discovered to be invalid and subsequently delisted out of the 2,523,458 new registrants who registered between June 28, 2021, and January 14, 2022.”
