Nigerian delegation led by Osinbajo travels to London for Queen Elizabeth’s funeral

In order to represent Nigeria at various ceremonies on Sunday and Monday during the State Funeral for the late Queen Elizabeth ll of the United Kingdom, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo departs from Abuja on Saturday for London.


The Vice President will attend the ceremonies, including the funeral service scheduled to take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, along with members of the Royal Family, world leaders, including Commonwealth leaders, Heads of State, Governors-General, Prime Ministers, and foreign royal families, according to a statement issued by his media assistant, Laolu Akande.


Osinbajo will be among the visitors and dignitaries King Charles ll and Queen Consort Camilla will greet at a reception in Buckingham Palace on Sunday before the service.

The Vice President will have a private meeting with James Cleverly, the UK Foreign Secretary, earlier on that day.


The longest-reigning British monarch and Head of the Commonwealth was Queen Elizabeth II. On September 8, 2022, at Scotland’s Balmoral Castle, she passed away at the age of 96.


Osinbajo will likely return to Abuja following the state funeral on Monday.
