Raphael Onyedika, a Nigerian, has been acquired by Belgian champions Club Brugge from FC Midtjylland in Denmark.
The highly regarded defensive midfielder has committed to Club Brugge on a five-year deal, with the club shelling out a record 10 million euros to get his services.
Club Brugge reported that it and FC Midtjylland “reached an agreement today about the final transfer of Raphael Onyedika.”
Onyedika (age 21) is a center defender who can also play defensive midfield. He arrived in Europe in 2019 after receiving training with FC Ebedei in Nigeria. He made his breakthrough with the Midtjylland main squad last season after being on loan to FC Fredericia. Onyedika performed admirably in both the Europa Division and Denmark’s top league, winning the trophy. His impressive exploits earned him the title of best young player in Denmark.
“He agrees to a deal through 2027.”
Following his outstanding efforts in the previous season, Onyedika was named the Young Player of the Year in the Danish league. He also became a prominent transfer target for many European teams, with the Italian champions being the most interested parties.
