Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has vowed to annihilate his enemies in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but the ongoing conflict in the party still poses a threat to its unity.
On Monday, September 5, 2022, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu inaugurated the Okezuo Abia Flyover in Osieome, Aba, Abia State. During the ceremony, Wike declared that he might defeat his rivals.
How it began: The governor of Rivers and four other PDP governors — Sam Ortom of Benue, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu — disagree with the way the party is currently divided up into offices.
Ayu responded to the governors by labeling them as youngsters who were not alive when the party was founded, which did not sit well with Wike’s side.
In his remarks during the inauguration yesterday, Wike recalled Ikpeazu’s advice to him to leave the ongoing PDP dispute to God.
Ikpeazu was reportedly informed by the governor that he would not back down since God had provided him with everything he needed to vanquish his foes.
In Wike’s own words: “We were talking on the plane when he remarked, ‘Why won’t I leave this issue for God?’ and I questioned what he meant.
“Why are you overcrowding God? God has given me what it takes for me to crush these people, for me to crush my enemies, and you are telling me I should leave it for God.
“No. God has given me what it takes. God has so many things to do. There are the ones I should do and there are the ones I should call on God for.
“Now that I know I have the capacity to flog these small boys and you want me to go and leave it for God? I am going to flog them with pepper.”
The governor further stated that anyone attempting to overthrow him would be unsuccessful because they do not comprehend the nature of the relationship between him and his fellow governors who are on his side.
